He plays the role of Jedi in training to the crew though keeps his personal motivations to himself.

Vrinko was born on the lower levels of Coruscant, living on the streets among the hustlers and criminals. He made a living as a young thief, using his mechanical skills and every now and then, he had moments of extraordinary luck.
One day he thought his luck ran out when he tried to pick pocket a crazed old Twi’lek; only to be caught in the act. The Twi’lek, Norcuna, was a former Jedi; driven mad by the fall of the council and the rise of the Empire. After catching Vrinko, Norcuna felt that Vrinko was Force sensitive, took him under his wing and began to teach him how to feel the force and the philosophies of the order.
Vrinko saw this training as his meal ticket out of the alien ghettos of Coruscant. He followed Norcuna’s teachings and worked hard to learn the skills that he had to teach, though only paid lip service to the philosophy. Vrinko had hoped to learn more but the old Twi’lek passed away. Vrinko fell afoul of Jedi hunters and fled with his masters light saber with a fellow crew of fugitives to make money on the outer rim.
He has found himself on a space transport operating as an independent contractor, helping the crew when necessary but looking out for himself first.
